Processors
Our most recent projects have involved the following processors:
- Intel IA32 (x86): one of the most popular stand-alone processors available.
The Intel Pentium M is the most common x86 architecture device used
in embedded devices.
- PowerPC: highly integrated, system on chip RISK architecture. Traditional
leader in networking and telecommunications products. Popular PowerPC
manufacturers include AMCC and Freescale.
- ARM 7/9: extremely popular, highly integrated, system on chip 32-bit
microcontroller that has achieved a large market share in consumer electronics.
Features include low cost and low power consumption. Some variants support
external memory and may include an MMU.
- MSP430: popular ultra-low-power 16-bit microcontroller from Texas
Instruments. Rich set of on-chip peripherals and on-chip memory (limited).
Of these processors, the Intel IA32, PowerPC and some ARM 7/9 variants
are suitable for embedded devices that require an operating system.
